A beginner book for young kids told in rhyme It s told from someone s point of view about the dangers of going out on Halloween with all the monsters We see kids dressed up as different ghouls The end is revealed who is speaking It s a nice surprise who it is.I saw Jan Brett s name as the illustrator and that is why I chose to read this I have to say, I was a little disappointed by the art It didn t seem to be her full style yet It s not that it was bad, it didn t have that Jan Brett bo A beginner book for young kids told in rhyme It s told from someone s point of view about the dangers of going out on Halloween with all the monsters We see kids dressed up as different ghouls The end is revealed who is speaking It s a nice surprise who it is.I saw Jan Brett s name as the illustrator and that is why I chose to read this I have to say, I was a little disappointed by the art It didn t seem to be her full style yet It s not that it was bad, it didn t have that Jan Brett book quality I expect. The nephew gave it 4 stars while my niece this was not too scary for her gave this 2 She grades harsh Either it s 5 stars or 1 or 2 She doles out 1 and 2s easily nowadays with glee

This is a fun one I enjoyed Bunting s rhymes, the excellent cast of Halloween y characters parading by, and the surprise ending I would never have guessed that Jan Brett is the illustrator This is such a far cry from her current style and I really didn t find anything remarkable or distinctive about the illustrations but the story is still a fun one.

I was reading this book for the Goodreads Children s Book Club and it was an alright read Scary, Scary Halloween is a Halloween children s book by Eve Bunting along with illustrations by Jan Brett and it details the true spirit of Halloween as children are seen dressed up in different Halloween creatures while a pair of green eyes watch their every move Scary, Scary Halloween might have beautiful illustrations, but the story is a bit too average for some children.Jan Brett s illustrations I was reading this book for the Goodreads Children s Book Club and it was an alright read Scary, Scary Halloween is a Halloween children s book by Eve Bunting along with illustrations by Jan Brett and it details the true spirit of Halloween as children are seen dressed up in different Halloween creatures while a pair of green eyes watch their every move Scary, Scary Halloween might have beautiful illustrations, but the story is a bit too average for some children.Jan Brett s illustrations were always so beautiful and realistic in most of her books and they are most certainly beautiful in this book I love the illustrations of all the children being dressed up in different Halloween costumes such as a skeleton, a pair of green faced witches and a red devil The backgrounds in the illustrations are equally as beautiful and haunting as the characters themselves as the background has a dark blue sky and gorgeous trees which truly captures the haunting spirit of Halloween The images that truly stood out the most in this book were the images of the haunting green eyes that were lurking among the bushes watching the children go out and trick or treat and many children and adults would enjoy spending the entire book trying to figure out who the green eyes belong to.Even though I thought that Eve Bunting s poetic storytelling is cute, it did not really have any kind of effect on me or the plot of the story The story seemed sort of plain as while it makes the children look like they were actual monsters, the fact is, many parents and some children might already have figure out that they are just children in disguise and that might take away the excitement of the story Also, the ending seem a bit off and I will not reveal to you whose green eyes those belong to, but it felt like that the characters who have the green eyes were not interesting since you have seen these characters before and therefore, the ending did not really provide a shock or surprise twist that would have many people getting into the book.Overall, Scary, Scary Halloween may have beautiful illustrations by Jan Brett, but the story itself is a bit too bland and predictable for some children to handle

I loved the illustrations on the inside front back covers They whetted my appetite for the book Then, things got a little bit scary, as the title warned Not really, but I d have been temporarily tense if I d had this read to me as a small child I think it s just scary enough, and just cute enough, not too much of either I enjoyed the illustrations but my favorite remain the ones on the inside covers And, the trick of treat treats shown in one illustration would have been a bit of a disappo I loved the illustrations on the inside front back covers They whetted my appetite for the book Then, things got a little bit scary, as the title warned Not really, but I d have been temporarily tense if I d had this read to me as a small child I think it s just scary enough, and just cute enough, not too much of either I enjoyed the illustrations but my favorite remain the ones on the inside covers And, the trick of treat treats shown in one illustration would have been a bit of a disappointment to me at trick or treating age. This is a fun book, but perhaps not ideal for the extremely fearful child.I read this because it s one of the six monthly books for the Autumn Halloween theme for this month s Picture Books Club over at the Children s Books group

I loved the first page of this story with two green eyes peering out of the darkness and the line, I peer outside, there s something there That makes me shiver, spikes my hair It must be Halloween It really captures the mood of Halloween The next pages of text and illustrations highlight the creepy creatures we might see at Halloween My son enjoyed the pages that had the green eyes peeking out the most and just loved the ending but I think he would have loved to seeof them and less I loved the first page of this story with two green eyes peering out of the darkness and the line, I peer outside, there s something there That makes me shiver, spikes my hair It must be Halloween It really captures the mood of Halloween The next pages of text and illustrations highlight the creepy creatures we might see at Halloween My son enjoyed the pages that had the green eyes peeking out the most and just loved the ending but I think he would have loved to seeof them and less of the creatures passing by

Another Eve Bunting book we adored This one has a Halloween poem that talks about all the creatures of the night and has you guessing who the narrator is The illustrations were creepy and colorful, and both my 5 yr old and my twin 3 yr olds loved the book Rhyming prose in our household is always a favorite, especially ones that are fun to read My 5 yr old insisted on reading every other line with me, while one of the twins happily repeated most of the lines I was saying Lots of fun and perf Another Eve Bunting book we adored This one has a Halloween poem that talks about all the creatures of the night and has you guessing who the narrator is The illustrations were creepy and colorful, and both my 5 yr old and my twin 3 yr olds loved the book Rhyming prose in our household is always a favorite, especially ones that are fun to read My 5 yr old insisted on reading every other line with me, while one of the twins happily repeated most of the lines I was saying Lots of fun and perfect for a cozy autumn read
