As soon as I write the review for Doctor Death which I found I will do a review for this bookTime to get this book review done This is the third book I have read for a Canadian reading challenge For starters this is a pretty brief book The moments are presented in chronological order starting in 1887 and ending in 1994 Although most baseball fans will be able to figure out what the last moment is I daresay some will be hard pressed to figure out the first one After all if you mention the name Tip O'Neill most people think of the former politician not the Canadian baseball player for whom he was named That is part of the fun of this book learning about some of Baseball's and Canada's pastOf course both of the Toronto Blue Jays' World Series championships are included but there is so much There are entries for Phil Machildon Fergie Jenkins Dick Fowler and Goofy Rosen among others There are also entries for non Canadians who made an impression on Canadian Baseball These include Babe Ruth who hit his only minor league home run at Toronto's Hanlon Point Jackie Robinson who started his professional career in Montreal and Dennis Martinez who pitched a perfect game for the Montreal ExposSo is this a worthy book for one's library Despite it's thinness I would say yes It is a nice piece of Canadiana so will fit on the shelf in someone's library and much of the material will be new to people It is also a good fit for the Baseball fan as it covers an area not covered much if at all The only drawback is both the brevity of the volume and the fact it ends in 1994 I daresay it is time for a seuelTwo brief notes One of the members of my Baseball group will appreciate the fact that the back cover is a shot of Fergie Jenkins in a Chicago Cubs uniform The other concerns Hanlons Point where Babe Ruth hit that home run At one time when I was living near Toronto that part of Toronto Island had become an unofficial nude beach Somehow I think the Babe would have apporved
