A little dated done in 1988 but a very thorough and honest look at what goes on in America's teacher education programs Having been in one briefly myself and hightailed it right back to the liberal arts school in disgust I understand completely what Kramer saw in fact I was in teacher training myself in 1988 But after my fiasco of a class in Educational Psychology where we sat around gave each other various tests and then emoted about the results and in which everyone who showed up consistently got an A I decided that wasn't what I wanted to do with my life Not that I didn't want to teach I did But I wanted to teach SOMETHING not continually ask people how things made them feel Ugh I would love to see a similar book NOW to see if things have improved much but I doubt they have

Several important uestions to ask1 What do we want our children to learn in school?2 What's important to know?3 What are the long term goals? To me it's to have a significant amount of background knowledge that's relevant academic and not junk and to be able to read write and compute In the long run it's to think critically and to be able to challenge information Are schools doing that today?Nope I should know because I taught mathematics for 3 years The reality is not even that close but is much much closer to what Rita Kramer presents in Ed School Follies Before I became a teacher I thought the job was so simple to teach mathematics the way I was taught When I worked as a teacher it was rarely the case I was forced to be a people pleaser to be in touch with my feelings and to be emotionally balanced To work with the students was to learn about them say all the nice things and encourage relationship building skillsWell fuck thatI signed up to teach math and I uit the profession for good because teaching math was never a priority in where I worked at What's the point any? It's all about babysitting spoiled children and playing nice with them It's no wonder why student achievement is abysmal today There's not much of learning going on in classes as far as accumulating knowledge goes I've been to graduate education courses training workshops and in school meetings only to see my throat to be shoved down with the latest education gimmicks and fads all in the name of progressive education which are all unproved and unsound and of very little value through research and experience In Ed School Follies Rita Kramer may seem to be with everybody in a cheerful mode for 15 nauseating chapters but she impressed me the most when she at the end slammed everybody of the whole education establishment You know what? She is exactly right by hitting the nail in the head Unfortunately Rita predicted everything ahead of time and the situation she painted is what's happening today The foregone conclusion I have to say is the education system is truly broken today Schools nowadays are not about the impartment of knowledge; rather it's about making everybody happy Hence everybody has done an excellent job of creating a snowflake generation look it up if you don't know what that means It's no wonder why the foreigners are coming over here and taking their jobs; it's because they actually know how to read write compute and think logically and are very disciplined showing a lot of resiliency and character For a while I thought about why education was the way it is today and came to this the elites including Wall Street the politicians and corporations want to keep the mass population as dumb as possible so they can keep robbing them blind If you don't believe me then you are really that cluelessAll in all Ed School Follies explains very clearly the current state of the United States of America
