45I really enjoyed this installment of the Love and series The tension in this book was really well written and I thought some of the serious themes like abandonment and mental health were handled with grace I know lots of people have complicated relationships with their fathers and I think my own experiences informed how I read and felt about Liv and her father's relationship There were times I just wanted to grab Liv by the shoulders lovingly and say hear him out And I think it's those same experiences that made me feel very profoundly sad about some things in this book It's not really a tear jerker kind of novel but I was affected by it to a degree that took me by surprise Very well done Side note maybe it's the Mamma Mia lover in me but the whole time I was just like yes run away to Greece Stay forever because I mean living in a bookshop overlooking the ocean in Santorini? That's literally a dream I received a complimentary copy of this book from Simon and Schuster through Edelweiss Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own

We received this book in exchange for an honest reviewLiv Varanakis pretends to be something she’s not She wants people to like her without knowing much about her life After all she pretends that her life in Seattle is perfect She has her boyfriend Dax his friends and a loving familyExcept she hasn’t seen her dad since she was eight He left to go back to his home country of Greece and find the lost city of Atlantis When Liv was little her dad loved to teach her about Greek mythology and how together they would use Plato’s clues to find Atlantis The summer before her senior year Liv gets a postcard from her father inviting her to Santorini for a few weeks to help with his projects Begrudgingly a few days later she’s on a plane to help her dad shoot a documentary on Atlantis for National Geographic Talk about awkward 1 It’s hard to be around her dad 2 Liv has become an Atlantic skeptic and 3 She’s sharing a bedroom with Theo her dad’s protégé who happens to be ridiculously cute Will Liv and her father be able to work things out?We we’re so excited about Welch’s next book We loved Love and Gelato and couldn’t wait for a book set in Greece Christy has been to Santorini and it’s just as beautiful as described in the book Welch did her research because when visiting Santorini many people discussed the theory that this was the site of AtlantisWe loved the mystery aspect of the book As history lovers it would be so cool being able to do a project for National Geographic and explore Greece to understand one of the world’s most discussed myths The characters also had us hooked Liv is rightfully angry when she arrives but has great character development Things aren’t so black and white While she has problems with her father we loved seeing them become closer and work out their unresolved issuesThen there’s the romance Dax was super dull and controlling Theo won us over right away with his sense of humor and adventure He gets Liv to open up and shows her the hidden gems of Santorini Plus he’s a budding filmmaker so he had great ideas for the documentaryWhile it’s a cute contemporary Welch mentioned some serious topics mainly mental health She did a good job of explaining depression and anxiety realistically Overall we loved this book about travel adventure family and romance If you’re looking to go on a vacation through books pick Love and Olives up when it releases November 10 2020 Blog | Twitter | Instagram

This series has been so much fun to read so far I am really excited for a Mamma Mia inspired story The Greece setting also sounds like the perfect backdrop for a YA romance novel

⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ I really enjoyed this book I have been a fan of Jenna Evans Welch since the debut of the first book in this series Love and Gelato 🍧 I adored Love and Gelato I liked Love and Luck It was set in one of my favorite countries Ireland 🍀 Love and Olives now falls between the middle of those In the number two spot if I had to rank the books A huge thank you to NetGalley the author and the publisher for my advanced copy What I loved ✨ The Location In a present day world with so many restrictions Jenna Evans Welch takes the reader to Santorini This book also gave me all the summer vacation vibes I’m about to sound so old but here it goes I love YA books set in summertime because it makes me nostalgic for my youth 😂 Summer break and vacations Being between grades in school especially that summer between 11th and senior year It was my best ✨ The Writing Even though I may not necessarily be the target audience the writing was beautiful and not overly simplistic Readers of all ages can easily be sucked into Love and Olives as well as the other two books in this series ✨ Olive Liv Indiana Olive Kalmata the amazing main character with so many names I loved Liv I thought she was so well developed She was relatable in many ways I really identified with her As great as Olive is there is also an amazing cast of side characters I was impressed with the fact that Jenna Evans Welch spent the time fleshing out Olive’s character and also made time to make sure that the supporting cast of characters was also uniue and distinguished I’ve read books in the past where one or two characters stand out and the rest kind of blend together and that was not the case with this book ✨ Heavier Subject Matter this book touches upon anxiety and mental illness I felt like it was handled well but now that I’m reflecting on what I’ve read it was kind of used as a plot device It didn’t bother me in the least bit but may be something other readers are sensitive to ✨ I may or may not have cried just a bit Props to the author for making me so connected to the story that I was able to feel such a strong emotion It’s been a minute since a book has made me cry Overall I highly recommend this book Although it is part of a series you can read it as a stand alone I really hope this series isn’t over I’d love a fourth installment Side note did not know Jenna Evans Welch was Richard Paul Evans daughter That’s pretty cool Always read the acknowledgements and authors notes when finishing a book friends You may just learn something new ♥️
